New Residential Construction Training Program (Paid Training)

Eligibility:
Age: 18 years and older
Background friendly (No Sex Offense) – the following will be considered (Age, years since conviction, recidivism, felony or misdemeanor, ext.)
Willing to work outside in cold or hot weather.
Must have work authorization or legal work status.

How the program works:

  1. 2 Week boot camp at Wesley (Tuesday through Friday 9:00 AM to 2PM)
    • We will be covering with them the following in the boot camp
      • FOC intake for all participants who are not enrolled.
      • Habitat paper work for a 1099 contractor – talking to them about understanding that no taxes will be deducted from their checks.
      • Goal Setting (Vision Boards) and Budget
    •  They will have 2 service projects (Helping at our Food Pantry as well as helping around Wesley)
    • Soft Skills: Communications, conflict resolution, employability
    • Construction Math
    • Workplace Safety.
  2. After Wesley (Habitat for Humanity Tuesday – Saturday from 7AM – 2:30PM)
    • If everything went well in the 2 week boot camp, participants will start to work with Habitat the week after.
    • They will work on learning the following skills: Minimum pay will be $9.00 per hour.
      • Lot Mowing / Maintenance
      • Landscaping
      • Minor Repairs
      • Roofing
      • Sheetrock
      • Interior Panting
      • Exterior Panting
      • Framing
    • Participants will also have to attend a weekly (Thursday) 1 hour session at Wesley for ongoing coaching and adjustments.
    • There is a bus stop that is 5 minutes walking from the Habitat location.
