Council Member Green is polling the District K community to find out how you feel about the proposed measure being presented by Mayor Turner to place the 2018 tax rate of $0.638750/$100 of value on the Wednesday October 18, 2017 Council Agenda. The reasoning behind this tax rate increase is to help pay a share of the costs from the damage caused by Hurricane Harvey.
The average Houston home is valued by the Appraisal District at $225,000. That value produces an annual city property tax bill of $1,321. Mayor Turner is asking the City Council to temporarily raise the rate — for 12 months only — from 58.64 cents to 63.875 cents. The City CANNOT extend this higher tax rate beyond one year.
We want to hear from you. Do you support or oppose the tax increase?
