Turkey Gift Away 2019
A test of humanity is the way we care for the seniors in our communities. On Thursday, December 19th I witnessed our District K college student volunteers giving of themselves and serving with pure hearts. The District K staff made everyone feel welcome and holiday cheer was evident. The longer I live the more beautiful life becomes. I saw that beauty in the smiles of our seniors on that Thursday! We shared over 530 turkeys with seniors at Platou Community Center, the Pinnacle Senior Center in Fort Bend and the Hiram Clarke Multi Service Center.
Vince Young Day
I vividly remember the last 19 seconds of the Rose Bowl football game on January 4, 2006. Vince Young ran an 8 yard touchdown, leading the UT Longhorns to a 41-38 win over the top ranked USC Trojans. In my opinion, it’s still one of the greatest moments in college football. I’m proud to have presented a proclamation to Vincent P. Young, an alumni of District K’s Madison High School, on December 17th, in honor of his induction into the 2019 College Football Hall of Fame and for all the great work he has done in our community.
Westbury Christmas Parade
December 14th was a great day for a parade in District K! We enjoyed the 21st Annual Deck the Halls Parade through Westbury themed, The Mighty State of Texas. District K neighbors and spectators filled 15 blocks to enjoy the festivities. I was able to spend time with several District K youth and chat about their plans for the holiday and school break.
Shop With A Cop – Shop With A Jock
Our District K team had an enjoyable morning on December 19th participating in the 2019 HPD Shop with a Cop, Shop with a Jock event. The memories made that day by so many amazing volunteers are priceless. These students were nominated by their principals and deserved this day filled with adventure. Thank you HPD and to all the Jocks for fostering positive relationships in our community.
Greater Houston Business Procurement Forum 28th Annual Awards Ceremony
On December 10th the Greater Houston Business Procurement Forum held its 28th Annual Awards Ceremony. I enjoyed speaking about the importance of building capacity and facilitating opportunities for Houston small, local, minority and women owned businesses. Let’s continue to work collectively to open new doors and build a culture of growth in the best city to live, work and start a thriving business!
Houston Police Department Cadet Class 242
On December 5th Houston added 55 more brave men and women to protect and serve Houstonians. Congratulations to Cadet Class 242. May God’s hedge of protection continually be with all of our first responders.
2020 Neighborhood 101 Series
District K neighbors, we are excited to announce the first District K Neighborhood 101 of 2020 will provide an overview of the City of Houston, Harris County and Fort Bend County. The District K office desires to ensure all residents are aware of each municipality’s operations and services to the residents. Stay tuned for more information as the date, time, and location are still being decided.
We look forward to seeing you then!
