District K Council Member Martha Castex-Tatum led a celebration Thursday night of completion of the $1.1 million, 4.2-mile Gateways project along South Main/US 90A. Along with safety improvements such as lane restriping and signage, the underpasses at Hiram Clarke, S. Post Oak, Chimney Rock, Hillcroft and Fondren feature multi-colored, changeable lighting and brightly painted beams and columns, bringing a more distinctive flair to the 5 Corners Improvement District.

The project was funded by TIRZ 25 as part of its tri-party agreement with the District and TIRZ 9.

The kick-off event started with a reception at The Community Collective for Houston and continued with a parade of vehicles that looped around the underpasses.

“The median improvements combine with a visual statement that District K is a place of character, pride, spirit and success,” Castex-Tatum said.
