Houston’s Flagship Park
Memorial Park

Take the Memorial Park Survey

Visited annually by 4 million Houstonians from 170 zip codes across the greater Houston region, Memorial Park is YOUR Park. Your participation provides the Conservancy, which operates and maintains most of the Park, critical feedback and helps guide Park offerings and programming. Let your voice be heard and take the survey by Saturday, February 29. It can be found at the below survey link or on the Conservancy’s Facebook page (Memorial Park Conservancy).

Write a Love Note to Memorial Park

Show your love for Memorial Park this Valentine’s Day. Memorial Park Conservancy is inviting Houstonians to share what they love most about Memorial Park in the form of a post card. Selected quotes will be featured in the Park’s new Eastern Glades, the 100-acre project opening this Summer. The quotes will be featured around the Central Lawn of the Eastern Glades and will be a lasting symbol for the Park’s own voice which echoes in every past, present, and future Park user. Please use the below link to submit your quotes or go to the Conservancy’s Facebook page (Memorial Park Conservancy).

On January 27th we celebrated the South Houston Concerned Citizens’ annual “Community of One” event. Congratulations to President Mya Carroll and the entire banquet committee of the South Houston Concerned Citizens Coalition for a phenomenal occasion. I was honored to be named the “Community Hero” and I have placed the award in a prominent location in my office as a reminder to the entire staff of our commitment to improving the quality of life for the residents in District K. Thank you for the tremendous honor! I look forward to continuing to lead and inspiring others to lead as we build a community we can all be proud of.

Keeping Our Trails Safe
District K adds ATV to HPD Fleet

It was standing room only at the January 28th HPD PIP meeting as I made our big announcement. It’s a new year and I enjoyed reviewing our 2019 successes and setting our safety goals for 2020. District K remains the 3rd safest district in the City of Houston, but of course we are striving to be number 1. Check out the newest addition to the HPD fleet. The District K office purchased an ATV for the officers to patrol our new trails throughout the district. We want to ensure our residents are safe on our streets as well as on our trails. Grab your walking shoes and a friend and we’ll see you out there. The next next PIP meeting in Feb 25th. Hope to see you there.

Houston Forward Times 60th Anniversary

February is Black History month and I am proud to have Black History right in District K. On January 28th I presented a proclamation to District K resident and Forward Times CEO, Karen Carter Richards. 2020 marks 60 years of operations for the Houston Forward Times. The legacy of this publication is stellar, and we look forward to celebrating the newspaper’s success throughout the year. The Houston Forward Times is a treasure in our community.

Chasewood Volunteer
Awards Ceremony

On January 31st I celebrated with residents of Chasewood at their Volunteer Recognition Awards Program. Congratulations to all the dedicated volunteers that work so hard to keep Chasewood a top neighborhood in District K and Houston. I enjoyed talking about the importance of engagement and working alongside the council office to keep our community thriving. Let’s continue to celebrate what we want to see more of!
