The Housing and Community Development Department is pleased to announce the opening of the Minor Critical Emergency Home Repair Program operated through Rebuilding Together Houston. Rebuilding Together Houston has successfully completed two previous contracts for home repair programs with the City of Houston. This third contract was approved by City Council on April 13, 2016, and intends to assist approximately 200 elderly or disabled households with incomes below 120% of Area Median Income (AMI) by providing minor home repairs critically needed to alleviate life, health or safety hazards. Such repairs could include services like vital roofing, plumbing, electrical and heating repairs or system replacement. Rebuilding Together Houston will provide repairs up to $10,000 per home; an average of up to $8,700 in additional repairs per home through volunteer efforts may be offered to further enhance the homes with scraping, caulking, painting and repairs to exterior siding, doors, windows and handrails. Specific repair services will be determined based on condition of the home, cost of the repairs and the availability of funds.

The Department is currently accepting applications for qualifying individuals to participate in this program. Applying for the program neither guarantees nor implies approval for, or acceptance into the Minor Critical Emergency Home Repair Program; complete vetting of the intake process will dictate approval for the program. When available funds are fully committed to approved eligible residents, the application/intake process will close.
