Hurricane Beryl Recovery Update

District K Neighbors,

While power has been restored for many of you we will continue working with CenterPoint until every resident has their power restored. Please send me an email if you are still without power toMartha.Castex-Tatum@houstontx.gov and I will also report your home address to our CenterPoint Representative.

For residents still without power, please note the 3 cooling and charging locations in District K:

  • Shannon Walker Library – 5505 Belrose Dr, Houston, TX 77035
  • Hiram Clarke Multi-service Center – 3810 West Fuqua St., Houston, TX 77045
  • Blue Ridge Neighborhood Library – 7007 West Fuqua St., Houston, TX 77489

CenterPoint Energy expects to have power restored to 90% of impacted customers by the end of day Monday. Read more in this press release. On our call yesterday they asked us to let residents know they realize the frustration happening around the outages and restoration times and maps. If customers receive an email or text that their power is restored and it is not, it’s because their system cannot pick up the granular details of the isolated outages. However, they are aware of the isolated outages and will continue working to resolve them. If you want to ensure your outage is reported visit this link: Report an outage.

If your neighbors lights on, but yours aren’t? You may be part of a nested outage. The video below explains how CenterPoint Energy restores power after an outage and why yours may be on sooner or later than others. Hope this helps even a little.

Tree Debris Pick-Up in Fort Bend

We’ve been working with Commissioner Grady Prestage to coordinate tree debris pick-up in Fort Bend, Houston. Contractors will start on Monday. Please ensure your tree debris is at the curb, but note that plastic bags and bundled wood can’t be picked up. The debris needs to be easy for the grapplers to handle. There will be several passes, including pick-up from City of Houston Solid Waste. Please keep household trash separate from your tree and fence debris. Stay safe!

Precint One Cooling Centers & Hot Meal Distribution

On Monday, July 15, Precinct One will open the above sites as cooling centers and for water and food distribution. For information, visit the Precint One website.

Solid Waste Management crews are making their way through the city! Be ready by ensuring your debris is separated into 6 distinct piles:

  • Tree debris
  • Appliances
  • Construction
  • Electronics
  • Hazardous materials
  • Household garbage

And please report all storm debris to 3-1-1!
