District K: COVID-19 Update & Announcements

As of Friday at 3:00pm, the Houston Health Department reported 879 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the Houston total to 18,056. Sadly, 8 additional deaths were reported bringing the total deaths to 216.

 

The Harris County COVID-19 Threat Level System has been raised to Level 1. Level 1 signifies a severe and uncontrolled level of COVID-19 in Harris County, meaning the number of cases are worsening and that testing and contract tracing capacity is strained or exceeded. It is important for each of us to do our part to slow the community spread of this virus. Continue to take action to minimize contact with others wherever possible and avoid leaving home except for the most essential needs. Wearing a face covering, washing hands and physical distancing are critical steps to keeping each other healthy.

 

If you are interested in getting tested please contact the COVID-19 call center at 832-393-4220 on Monday-Friday from 9:00am to 7:00pm and Saturdays from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

 

The Houston Health Department will also distribute a news release with information on Sunday and Monday mornings and update the testing page of HoustonEmergency.org/covid19. The department will amplify the information via CitizensNet, AlertHouston, websites, social media, newsletters and direct outreach in neighborhoods and with stakeholders.

The testing sites available for next week are listed below. Please note the additional testing sites in District K at Hobby Elementary School located at 4021 Woodmont, 77045 in Brentwood neighborhood and NRG Park in the Green Lot. Both locations require appointments.

We want to hear from our youth leaders in District K. I’m excited to join CM Thomas of District F, as we encourage our young residents to hold meaningful conversations about public safety. District K will be represented by a student from Willowridge High School, Madison High School, Westbury High School, New Faith Church Youth Group and our District K summer intern. Our office has received numerous emails and phone calls in reference to heavy trash pick up. I have been in contact with Director Harry Hayes of Solid Waste and they are unfortunately being adversely impacted by a number of employees being out due to COVID-19. Our office has canvassed several neighborhoods and reported the areas that are still awaiting their heavy trash pick up. Please know the department is getting assistance from a contractor and the process is taking a bit longer due to increased volumes of heavy trash over the last couple of months around the city. The crews are working 7 days a week to try to catch up and are on the way. We apologize for the inconvenience in your neighborhoods. Thank you for your patience.
