On Wednesday, September 4, 2019, U.S. House Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight & Investigations Chairman Al Green (TX-09) will preside over a congressional field hearing titled: Examining Discrimination and Other Barriers to Consumer Credit, Homeownership, and Financial Inclusion in Texas.

The Financial Services Committee is chaired by Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43). Her leadership of the committee during the 116th Congress has created a space to address and begin solving issues involving discriminatory financial practices that have disproportionately affected minorities as well as persons in the LGBTQ community.

To that end, this hearing will consist of two panels that focus on access to affordable housing, credit and banking services in low- and moderate-income (“LMI”) neighborhoods. The first panel will address discrimination and other barriers to access to the markets for affordable credit, housing, and banking services. The second panel will explore potential solutions to promote financial inclusion and strengthen financial institutions that serve LMI communities, such as minority depository institutions (“MDIs”) and community development financial institutions (“CDFIs”).

Members of the community are invited to attend the full hearing.
