| All Things FIFA: Houston Insider | Dear District K Friends: On behalf of the City of Houston and District K, I am thrilled to welcome families from across our city and around the world to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Hosting the world’s biggest sporting event in honor of Houston, as your Mayor Pro Tem, I’m proud of the work we’ve done to ensure our community is ready to shine. Designed for everyone, The FIFA Fan Festival in East Downtown will be a free, 34-day celebration with 250,000 square feet of entertainment and space accommodating 7,500 guests at a time. Featuring local and global food vendors, live performances, and innovative attractions like the 144 foot Magic Sky cooling canopy and the Aramco Arena, whether or not you have tickets to a match, this, among many others, will be the place to watch the games, celebrate our city and make new memories with your family and friends. We’ve also partnered with the FIFA host committee and public safety agencies to keep everyone safe. Houston’s security plan is included below and is thought of with you in mind first. It includes highly visible law-enforcement presence at venues, crowd-management and much more. To beat the summer heat, the festival offers cooling misters, shaded areas, cool towels and free water-refill stations. District K is no stranger to Texas summers, and while Houston is known for its warmth and hospitality, please plan ahead. Stay hydrated and consider using public transit or rideshare so that warmth will be felt safely everywhere you go. Thank you for joining us in this historic celebration! As always, we appreciate you for your partnership and your commitment to Houston. Remember to stay engaged and informed while enjoying the games and exploring our neighborhoods. If you have any questions or concerns as we prepare for this historic event, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our District K office. My team and I are here to listen and help. Recent updates that will assist in daily commutes to and from match venues include: - Local authorities will deploy a highly visible, layered law-enforcement presence at FIFA-designated venues and critical infrastructure.
- METRO has launched a direct coach-bus route connecting Hobby Airport to downtown every 30 minutes, seven days a week, and the airport has enhanced its passport system with eight additional TSA lanes to ease arrival queues.
- Dedicated support units, including crowd-management teams, SWAT and bomb squads, will be on standby for rapid response. City safety officials stress that the security plan emphasizes prevention, preparedness, protection and rapid response.
- Construction downtown will be tidied up and paused during the fan festival to minimize disruption.

| Growing the Game at Blue Ridge Park | | Great news! We are proud to share that this community will be part of a legacy project that extends far beyond the World Cup. The FREEKICKS Soccer initiative, a partnership between the Houston Host Committee, Harris County and five local youth clubs, is investing nearly $1.5 million each year into programming at six parks across our region and will provide about 1,200 scholarships annually. This collaboration brings organized club programming directly into our neighborhoods, removing financial and geographic barriers. One of those parks is Blue Ridge Park, a 296-acre regional sports complex with existing youth soccer facilities. Under FREEKICKS, Blue Ridge will receive two new high-quality fields and operate as a program site in partnership with HTX Soccer. By pairing beautiful new fields with structured coaching and scholarship support, we’re creating a pathway for local children to develop skills and confidence from their very first touches to long-term growth. Learn more on this program and how to stay up to date on how to get involved once the new fields are ready here. |

| FIFA World Cup Halftime Performance | | For the first time in World Cup history, the final will feature a halftime performance. FIFA and Global Citizen announced that global superstars Madonna, Shakira and BTS will co-headline the 2026 World Cup Final Halftime Show on Sunday, 19 July 2026 at the New York/New Jersey Stadium. The show will be curated by Chris Martin of Coldplay and produced by Global Citizen. This landmark event isn’t just about entertainment. The halftime show supports the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise USD 100 million to expand access to quality education and football for children around the world. Already more than USD 30 million has been raised, with $1 from every World Cup ticket sold going toward social projects. FIFA President Gianni Infantino called Madonna, Shakira and BTS “global icons whose music transcends borders and generations.” He said the show would celebrate football and unity while shining a light on the mission to expand educational opportunities for children. To reinforce that message, characters from Sesame Street’s Muppets will appear in the performance, underscoring the goal of ensuring children everywhere have access to quality education. You can learn more about the halftime performance by exploring the official FIFA site. Download the HTX FIFA Playlist! |
