August means back to school for most families, though not all will be traipsing through school doors this month. No matter what August may bring, there are plenty of events and activities on this month’s calendar to keep you engaged, prepared and maybe even entertained.
August 11, 6-8PM: Teacher Supply Drive
Join fellow community members at the Willowridge High School football field at 16301 Chimney Rock, for a teacher supply drive just in time for school. Supplies on the much needed list are: tape, staplers, printer paper, snacks, dry erase markers, pens, pencils, color pencils, hand sanitizer, college-rule paper. Hosted by Houston City Council Member, Larry Green.
August 19, 9AM-1PM: Back to School Carnival And Health Fair
Come out for one last hurrah before the kids are back in the hallowed halls of educational institutions to pick out backpacks, school supplies and more. W.P. Hobby Elementary School is the place to be at 4021 Woodmont Dr., where there will also be music, food, snacks and fellowship. Brought to you by Hiram Clarke Storefront Association and other community partners.
Every Monday, 10AM-1PM: Pickle Ball For Seniors
Every Monday the Townwood Park Community Center (3403 Simsbrook) gets heated with the competition of pickle ball for seniors – a game that combines the excitement of table tennis and the ease of badminton. Easier on the knees and joints than regular tennis, this low-impact game has high-impact when it comes to fun. Bring your A-game, and a competitive spirit. The only thing sour will be the way you feel if you miss out on the opportunity.
