south-county-mobilityH-GAC presented the draft South County Mobility Plan at a public meeting on September 25, 2014. The year-long study identified short- and long-term programs of proposed projects designed to address the mobility issues in South Montgomery County. Approximately 120 people, including interested citizens, business owners, elected officials and community leaders from throughout the county attended the meeting.

The study focused on identifying projects in the study area that can be implemented within a reasonable timeframe that would improve east to west and north to south connectivity, access to the Grand Parkway, local circulation across IH 45 and alternatives to IH 45.

Projects were separated into two major areas: short-term and long-term needs. A long list of mobility improvements were presented, including a list of key corridors that had been identified by the Plan’s Steering Committee. The key corridors include: Rayford Road, Woodlands Parkway/ Robinson Road, Lake Woodlands Drive, Grogan’s Mill Road, Gosling Road, Birnham Woods Road and Elan Boulevard.

In addition to the key corridors, the plan recommends that South County establish an area wide signal timing optimization program, implement an aggressive incident clearance program and install a dynamic message system. The plan also recommends that H-GAC and TxDOT conduct a major investment study for IH 45N/Hardy Toll Road, from BW 8 to North Montgomery Co.
