Our spring clean-up was a success. I would like to thank the students from Yes Prep-Southwest and Madison High School. Without the students, the clean-up would not have been a success.
I would also like to thank representatives from Senator Rodney Ellis’ office and Council Member Larry Green’s office, and a special thanks to Council Member at Large Position 5 Jack Christie for participating.
As part of the clean-up, BARC and the City of Houston Sign Department participated. BARC picked up stray dogs and the Sign Department collected bandit signs. These efforts were to clean up the objectionable things that devalue our community.
Our main thoroughfares are used to access most of our subdivisions. When visitors come into the community, the thoroughfares welcome them and give an overall impression of the community. If the thoroughfares are trashy, weed-laden, and littered with signs, it sends a message about how we feel about our community.
The Coalition will be sponsoring another clean-up in October or early November. I hope that we will be able to get more participation from our civic clubs and homeowners associations.
