Tim Murray, a past Chair of the local U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Texas Gulf Coast Chapter, with an extensive background in the evolution of the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) process, will present the latest information on the LEED Rating System. This will be the first of many collaborations with the USGBC chapter, which offices in the Green Building Resource Center so you will get to network with USGBC members as well. The program is free and there will be light refreshments.

The LEED Rating System is the most-used protocol for developing more sustainable buildings, and it has recently been approved by the U.S. Green Building Council membership to upgrade to a more vibrant and robust methodology: version 4, due in 2014. LEED has already transformed the marketplace and led the nation to adopt better building energy codes. Houston is fourth in the country with total LEED certified buildings.

This event is limited to 75 attendees. Please RSVP to Steve Stelzer at steve.stelzer@houstontx.gov or 832.394.9050 prior to the event. See http://www.greenhoustontx.gov/gbrceducation.pdf for more details and a map.

Green buildings provide greater energy efficiency, saving money for owners and users, and the reuse of materials is better for the environment. Ultimately, they foster a happier and healthier workplace for employees. The Green Building Resource Center, within the LEED Gold Houston Permitting Center, hosts periodic programs to educate the public about green building practices.
