District K Residents,
Pool season is near and HPARD is projected to open 34 pools this season, pending staffing. Unfortunately, Westbury Pool pumps and filters have failed and need to be replaced along with additional mechanical plumbing. The estimated cost to replace the entire mechanical and piping ranges from $700,000 to $900,000. While the filters have been ordered, the lead time to receive them is very long and we don’t expect to have the filters installed until Memorial Day 2024. The filters will allow the pool to operate until we have the budget to replace the mechanical issues extending the life of the pool.
I thought the cost of the repair was quite expensive so I asked if we should consider a new pool instead of such a costly repair and was told a new pool would cost the City of Houston approximately $9 million. I realize this is disappointing news however I will continue to seek opportunities to expedite these repairs.
Windsor Village Pool currently has a leak, and I am waiting on the cost and timeline to have that pool repaired and will send an update when confirmed.
On a better note, Townwood Park Pool is scheduled to open on Saturday, May 27th with a One Safe Summer, Pool Opening Celebration at 11:00am. Mayor Turner along with HPD and HFD are scheduled to join community members for the opening of pool season.
As I receive more information, I will keep you updated. Let’s make it a fun summer!
In service,
Martha
