We’re Spreading Holiday Cheer with Turkeys for Our Seniors and a District-wide Shared Holiday Meal

Thanks to our generous sponsors we will continue the tradition of our holiday Turkey “Gift-Away” for our seniors in District K. We know this year has been challenging and we want to find joy in everything we can. This year I’m grateful that our sponsors want to continue to help us bless our seniors in the community. Call or email us to get on the list. If you know a senior, remind them to call before December 16th! 832-393-3016 or [email protected].

On that same day we are inviting all of our residents that would like to share in a holiday meal to meet us at the Fountain Life Center for a drive thru pick up of roasted chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans. Each meal will be pre-packaged individually and you can pick up a delicious meal for each of your family members.

While we have been apart for most of the year, this event is planned to bring us together safely for a brief fellowship during this holiday season. It’s times like these when we are especially blessed to have sponsors and a community of caring residents. Now and in the months ahead, we will need every bit of supportive nature and resolve. Let’s keep taking social distancing seriously, washing our hands, wearing our mask when in close proximity of others and practicing self care. We all know someone who may be dealing with far more than usual, even though they may not admit it. Let’s commit to staying in touch with each other, especially those that may need a little extra support this holiday season.

I really hope to see each of you on Friday, December 18th from 11am to 1pm. Stay safe and encouraged! See flyers for more info.

Changes in COH Leadership Positions

Earlier this month, Mayor Sylvester Turner announced changes to four of his top administrative staff positions.

City Attorney Ronald Lewis, Solid Waste Management Director Harry J. Hayes, Fleet Director Victor Ayres and Parks Director Steve Wright are leaving their positions with the City of Houston. Director Hayes and Director Ayres are both retiring. Attorney Lewis and Director Wright have both decided to pursue employment elsewhere.

Arturo Michel, who served as city attorney from 2004 to 2010, has been selected to fill that role again, subject to Council approval on December 16, 2020 with a January 1, 2021 start date. Deputy Solid Waste Director Carolyn Wright and Assistant Parks Director Kenneth Allen have both been asked to lead their departments on an interim basis until permanent replacements are determined. Gary Glasscock has been selected to fill the Fleet Department position, subject to council approval on December 16, 2020 with a January 1, 2021 start date as well.

We wish each of these public servants the best as they enter their next season of life and employment.
