National Night Out
Please email Joe Gatson – Joe.Gatson@houstontx.gov to share the details of your National Night Out Celebration if you would like to have a District K staff member attend. We have already received some invitations but given the traditional levels of participation, we know more neighborhoods will host a Night Out gathering.
We look forward to visiting with you on October 1st and spotlighting your Night Out with neighbors.
#CleanStateofMind – Brairgate Community Clean Up
Shout out to Briargate for catching the Clean Wave!
We love that the neighbors have joined the District K quest to help keep District K clean, beautiful and safe.
Which neighborhood is next? Send your photos to DistrictK@houstontx.gov, we would love to spotlight your community.
It is our hope that residents and business owners will catch the “clean wave” and join our quest to make every neighborhood in District K one we can all be proud of.
We are spending almost $30,000 a month picking up trash at the detriment of more meaningful projects. Each of our management districts is reporting picking up 3000-4000 pounds of trash a month. In their first week our, HOT Team picked up over 300 illegally dumped tires.
Hot Team Reporting Protocol
We need your help to make every day, Keep District K Beautiful day! Please remember to continue to follow the City’s protocol when you encounter dumping or a neighborhood nuisance. Report the matter to 311 Houston, obtain the service request number, and share the site address and 311 service request number with the District K office staff via phone or email. The responsible staff member will make contact with the correlating City Department for resolution. If the District K staff determines the City Department is not able to resolve the matter in a reasonable time frame, the work will be scheduled for the Hot Team. Feel free to reach out to the District K office if you have any additional questions or concerns about the procedures the Council Member has established for the team.

Linkwood Park Ribbon Cutting
Providing safe places for our children to learn and play yields so many benefits. Parks inspire greatness. I can only imagine the creativity, problem solving, character building, confidence boosting, adventure planning and so much more that will happen under these beautiful trees.
It is my hope that every person who comes to enjoy this new space will forever be enriched and leave each time with cherished memories. What a perfect gift as we celebrate the heavenly 47th birthday of our former chief of staff, Donald Perkins. Thanks to everyone who helped to make this renovation a reality.
If you were not able to attend check out the below video that archives this celebration.

City of Houston – Harvey Homeowner Assistance Program
Houston homeowners have until Dec. 31, 2019 to make home repairs that could be eligible for reimbursement under the federal Harvey Homeowner Assistance Program (HoAP).
The deadline is set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The deadline is for the actual repairs to be completed; homeowners can still apply for reimbursement after December 31 for work completed before that date. “If you’ve been putting off repairs of damage caused by Hurricane Harvey, now is the time to make them so that you may be eligible to have federal funds cover some of your costs,” said Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner.
The maximum amount of reimbursement depends on homeowners’ income:
- Below 80% Area Media Income (AMI): 100% of eligible expenses, up to $80,000
- 81 -120% AMI: 50% of eligible expenses, up to $40,000
- Above 120% AMI: 25% of eligible expense, up to $20,000
All homeowners impacted by Hurricane Harvey should take the Harvey Recovery Survey at recovery.houstontx.gov or by phone at 832-393-0550.
Program representatives are available in multiple languages to take questions and assist Houstonians in taking the survey. The survey takes less than 15 minutes and does not require documentation.
Almost 20,000 residents have taken the Harvey Recovery Survey. As a result, about 5,000 homeowners have been invited to apply to HoAP and are working on an application or have completed their submission.
Seventy-one percent of survey respondents potentially eligible for HoAP are low- to moderate-income as a result of extensive outreach effort in vulnerable neighborhoods.
Almost $150 million is still available for reimbursements.
Funds for Harvey Recovery Programs are provided by the City of Houston and the Texas General Land Office through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant Program.
